Raw Log File Naming Convention

HTTP LargeThis platform has been optimized to cache and deliver static content (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ISO, multimedia, and software downloads, etc.) over HTTP or HTTPS.
HTTP SmallLegacy. If you are currently serving traffic over this platform, then you may continue to do so. However, we recommend that you serve your traffic over our more robust HTTP Large platform.
ADNThe Application Delivery Network platform has been optimized to deliver dynamic content (e.g., login credentials, account information, etc.) over HTTP or HTTPS. Typically, user-specific and database-driven content are served over this platform.

The following naming convention is used to name raw log files:

Platform_ANThis term represents your customer account number (e.g., 0001) which can be found in the upper right-hand corner of the MCC._YYYYMMDD_nnnn.log.gz

As you may be able to tell from the above file naming convention, the following two file extensions are assigned to raw log files:

File Extension Description

gz

This file extension indicates that the raw log data has been compressed using the gzip file format. A software application is required to decompress this file type.

log

This file extension indicates that the text file corresponds to a log file. Although this file type can be opened with a text editor, you may wish to open it using a third-party analytics tool.

A description is provided for the different elements in the log file name.

Variable Description

Platform

Represents the CDN platform for which activity was logged. Valid values for this term are listed below:

  • wpc: HTTP Large platform (includes our various HTTP streaming solutions)
  • wac: HTTP Small platform
  • adn: Application Delivery Network platform
  • fms: Flash Media Streaming platform
ANThis term represents your customer account number (e.g., 0001) which can be found in the upper right-hand corner of the MCC.

This term represents your CDN account number (e.g., 0001). This account number can be viewed from the upper-right hand corner of the MCC.

YYYY

This term represents the four digit year on which the log file was generated by a CDN server.

MM

This term represents the two digit month on which the log file was generated by a CDN server.

DD

This term represents the two digit day on which the log file was generated by a CDN server.

nnnn

This term is replaced by a four digit number that ensures that all of the log files generated for the current day are assigned a unique name.
