How to Ping a Host

Ping is a network tool through which IP connectivity to a host is tested. Our technical support personnel can use this information to diagnose connectivity issues.

A ping is typically performed to one or more of the following hostnames:

Domain	Description
can.ANThis term represents your customer account number (e.g., 0001) which can be found in the upper right-hand corner of the TCC..transactcdn.com	This tests connectivity between the current computer and our CAN service.
EdgeCNAMEHostnameReplace this term with the hostname associated with the desired edge CNAME configuration.	This tests connectivity between the current computer and our CDN service.
CustomerOriginHostnameReplace this term with the hostname associated with your origin server.	This tests connectivity between the current computer and the origin server.

To perform a ping (Windows)

1. Open the command prompt.
   1. Press the Windows logo key + R (+R).
   2. Type:
      CMD
   3. Press ENTER to display the command prompt.
2. Type:
   ping hostnameReplace this term with the hostname that will be pinged.
3. Press ENTER.
4. Copy the results of the ping.
   1. Once the ping has completed, right-click and then select Mark.
   2. Select the ping results.
      
   3. Press ENTER.
5. Paste the results into an email message or any text editor.

To perform a ping (iOS)

1. Launch Ping.
   1. Open the Utilities folder.
   2. Launch Network Utility.
   3. Click Ping.
2. Type the desired hostnameReplace this term with the hostname that will be pinged..
3. Click Ping.
4. Copy the results of the ping.
   1. Select the results.
   2. Right-click and then select Copy.
5. Paste the results into an email message or any text editor.
